WALKING IN THE WAKE

The Silver Dress

Victoria loved her silver dress it was the ultimate purchase; it was made up of silver links as one would find in jewellery, all fastened together on an elastic bodice background thus clinging to her body as a second skin. A long zip snaked from the small of her back to the nape of the neck. She reached for the experience and as she pulled it on her well shaped bosom slipped into position. It was very comfortable. The air conditioning made it possible for her to wear such a garment.

Victoria loved entertaining within the walls of her heavenly home surrounded by all the beautiful things Shane had bought for her. She looked into the long mirror at her reflection. The maid, who had been quietly putting things away, gasped," Oh Madam!" Victoria raised her eyebrows, then smiled at the girl. She had allowed her hair to fall around her shoulders. However, no one ever saw her hair down except Shane...she would always gather the thick black hair into a French pleat pulled tightly away from her face, giving an Egyptian appearance. Today, however, this was for Shane.

"There you are, my raven haired beauty!" Shane appeared wearing a pearl silken shirt. He waved a pale grey tie, “will this do?"
“Mmm," You will have to watch the ladies looking like that." She studied her extremely attractive husband and bringing down his head she kissed him full on the lips. "Not again," he said playfully. With that he left the room.
Victoria stepped back from the mirror taking a long look at herself. "You’re not a bad looker, Victoria Thornbury," she declared out loud.
A cool breeze lifted the net curtain as it blew inwards, a shiver ran over her body, it was as if her Mother had been standing there and a rush of blood suffused her face. For a moment she stood motionless, a cold silence surrounded the room. Victoria shuddered. "Don't be silly," she muttered and with that she walked out of the room onto the cold marble floor leading into the lounge. "Reality," she breathed. Shane was already at the cocktail cabinet. "Vodka ?" he called."
“Why not?" Victoria mellowed. "Well Shane, I'm going to enjoy this evening." They looked at each other, a long deep loving look. Victoria kissed the air and lifting her hand she threw the kiss in his direction. Shane reached up, snatching the kiss, and slowly put it in his pocket. They both laughed. This was going to be their night. The clink of ice into cut glass goblets, laughter, music; this was how they liked to live. The lights had been lowered, candlelight had replaced brighter lights. The air was full of expectancy, faint sounds of Jazz, one could actually drink in the atmosphere they had created. Smoke swirled from mosquito rings, wind chimes tinkled in the breeze...The huge gates began to open slowly, a white Jaguar slinked into the drive; Victoria's heart missed a beat ...who was this? Houseboys were running alongside. The car drew to a stop. Then a tall, very good looking gentleman stepped out.
His hair was sleeked back from his face. "It's greasy," she decided. He was wearing a white silk shirt with a frill down the front, the neck was open, "NO TIE!" she noted with distress. "Who's this?" she whispered.
"Not a clue," Shane replied.
"Are you alone?" Victoria enquired of the newcomer.
"Yes," he confirmed." Fred Browning. Kate insisted I came, she sends her apologies, a bit under the weather," he added.
"Oh, Freddie!" Victoria remembered.
"That's right." He touched his brow giving Victoria a very sensual feeling. They held each other’s gaze. Meanwhile Shane had noticed the chemistry in the air. “Oh well, lets me off the hook,” he thought to himself. Other guests had started to arrive and feeling free Shane lifted Angela, who had just appeared, into the air and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Angela," he declared with pleasure. Grabbing the shoulder of Lionel, her husband, he bent down to whisper: "See you on the terrace later." Lionel knew exactly what that was all about. A Smoke!
Lionel walked over to Freddie and Victoria. "Oh, Shane,” Victoria was quick to cool the moment. "Meet Freddie Browning.” Victoria left them together and as she reached the other side of the room she turned. Freddie looked across at her and raised his glass with that smouldering look in his eyes. Victoria held his gaze. A wave of sexual pleasure filled her body. "Wow!" she whispered. Shane had noticed the look and whispered to her later: "Some guy hey?" Victoria pushed him playfully.
"I saw you with Angela, you've no room to talk." They both laughed and touching each other lovingly they eased themselves into the full swing of their party night.
